If you're serious about sewing, you need a machine, some great fabric, and the right thread for the job. This much we know. But there are plenty of doo-dads that come in very handy (some are downright essential) and you need a place to keep them all organized. Here's our list of must-have accessories to keep you prepared for most standard sewing projects. Find them at your local sewing center, or try online sources like Clover or Nancy's Notions.
- A sewing box (We are loving this vintage train case, fabulously decoupaged with old McCall's sewing pattern envelopes, handmade by Julie Thompson of Jane's Apron), tackle box, or tote bag with plenty of pockets
- 12" ruler
- Small, sharp pointed scissors
- Extra fine pins
- Magnetic pincushion
- Shears
- Pinking shears
- Safety pins
- Pencil & pen
- Water soluable marker
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Tape measure
- Hand-sewing needles
- Buttonhole cutting kit
- Seam sealant (Fray Check)
- Seam gauge
